The signing Ceremony for the Economic and Social Development for Vocational Training Equipment Support
On Thursday, 24 September 2020, the signing ceremony for the Economic and Social Development Programme was held at the National Planning Commission. During the ceremony, H.E. Hideaki Harada, Ambassador of Japan to Namibia, and Hon. Obeth Kandjoze, Director General of the National Planning Commission, signed the Exchange of Notes on the Programme.
This cooperation worth 300 million Japanese yen (approximately 50 million Namibian dollars) is to provide equipment for the Zambezi Vocational Training Centre, specifically its new workshops for auto mechanics and for air conditioning and refrigeration.
During the ceremony, H.E. Hideaki Harada noted that this cooperation falls within the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation and the Namibia Training Authority for a comprehensive Transformation and Expansion Strategy for the technical and vocational education and training sector.
Hon. Obeth Kandjoze said, “The equipment support provided will optimally merge with the Centre’s vision of becoming a reputable vocational training provider developing competent citizens who contribute to the socio-economic prosperity and wellbeing of the SADC Region”.
The cooperation will help address the skills mismatch in the Namibian labour market and transform the TVET system from supply-driven to demand-driven.
