Japanese Aid Supporting Medical Emergency Service in Swakopmund
2021/3/25
On 24 March 2021, H.E. Mr. HARADA Hideaki, Ambassador of Japan to Namibia, signed a Grant Contract with H.W. Ms. Louisa Kativa, Mayor of Swakopmund, at the Council Chamber of Swakopmund.
The Grant Contract in the framework of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) was signed to sponsor reconditioning and shipment of two recycled ambulances from Japan worth about 250,000 NAD. The initiative was taken by the Rotary Clubs of Swakopmund and Kawasaki North in Japan to make use of the existing mechanism to give a second chance to ambulances which are still in good condition but have passed their service life in Japan. The two ambulances will be donated by Kawasaki City in Kanagawa and Daito-Shijonawate Firefighting Association in Osaka. The Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy signed a partnership agreement with the Municipality of Swakopmund and will facilitate liaising with the Japanese Municipalities.
This is the first time that recycled vehicles will be transported to Namibia within the framework of GGP. When these ambulances are received by the Municipality of Swakopmund, it will be the second Municipality in Namibia to possess its own ambulances after Windhoek and its capacity to respond to medical emergencies will be greatly improved.
