Handover of Medical Equipment under the “Economic and Social Development Programme”

On 3 December 2021, Ambassador Harada handed over medical equipment to Hon. Jenelly Matundu, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation.

The Government of Japan availed a grant of approximately 50 million Namibian dollars under the “Economic and Social Development Programme” to support Namibia in strengthening the healthcare system and tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. The medical equipment to be distributed to 17 Namibian hospitals consists of:
  • 4 Portable Ultrasound Scanners
  • 10 Electrocardiogram machines
  • 4 Central monitors
  • 15 Defibrillators
  • 10 Bedside Monitors
  • 3 Autoclave machines
At the ceremony, Ambassador Harada stated that ‘I am confident this cooperation is another milestone in strengthening friendly relations between Japan and Namibia, and this further contributes to the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Namibia to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, and also to strengthening the health and medical system in Namibia.’

Hon. Deputy Minister Matundu during the ceremony remarked, ‘As the world continues to face the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been heartwarming to see how governments, organizations from across industries and sectors and individuals come together through partnerships, friendship and good-will to respond to this global outbreak. I am able to say confidently that today’s donation is a clear testimony of the support, solidarity and great friendship that exists between Namibia and Japan.’
